Throughout history pearls have been a bridal tradition representing purity and devotion to many cultures, starting with the legend that in 1000 B.C. the Hindu god Krishna plucked the first pearl from the sea and gave it to his daughter Pandaia on her wedding day.
In more recent history the American actress Grace Kelly wore a gown encrusted with hundreds of pearls for her wedding to Prince Rainier III of Monaco in 1956.
The tradition of bridal pearls remains a symbol of romance and elegance today.
